The Tent of Refuge Project

The Tent of Refuge continues to prepare food parcels for hungry families. Their work has been recognised by the local authority and they are planning to help them with food supplies for the wider community.

8 kilometres north east of Nairobi city centre is Dandora Estate. This is the site of Nairobi’s main rubbish dump which covers 30 acres. On this dumpsige 1,000+ men, women & children eke out a living by scavenging for recyclables at great risk to their health.

Working in partnership with a local church, the Tent of Refuge provides a good meal, mentoring, Christian teaching and games  to 100+ children each week helping to keep them off the dumpsite; it enables children to go to Primary and Secondary School by providing help with uniforms, tuition and lunches.

Boniface is the manager of the Tent of Refuge Project. Here he is leading the children in worship.

Creative Solutions are now sponsoring Boniface to do a BA in Management & Leadership with International Leadership University which he can do online.

Volunteers cook the food and supply a nutritious meal for the children.

The Tent of Refuge is currently (2022) helping 35 pupils at Primary School with daily school lunches. Only half of the chldren in Dandora finish their primary education

The project is also helping 12 students with a contribution of KSh 5,000 for Secondary School fees (age 14-18 yrs) for each term. This empowers the parents to keep the youth in school.

In June, a Plants and Pillars special programme went well, with a total of 240 students attending, the topic being Sex and Relationships and God.

"Our speaker did an amazing job! We saw a total of 50 students coming to the Lord, with many asking for prayer. The Lord is at work and we praise His name!"
