July 2018 Rice Harvest Report: Hard work but disappointing harvest !

On July 16, 2018, the women of Turiwacu  Kinama were able to harvest this season's rice. They were able to harvest 9.5 bags of whole, uncleaned rice before drying. Not a good result this season.

They harvested 9.5 bags of whole rice before drying.

After drying, they obtained 778Kg of non-husked rice.

 It was divided like this:

     ● 291Kg: To reimburse cost of water and seeds to IRDI

     ● 487Kg: Remaining to grind.

The husked rice totalled 306Kg, shared thus:

    ● 63Kg to share among the members

    ● 243Kg sold to pay the expenses.

The selling price is 1300FBu / Kg

        243Kg × 1300 = 315900Fbu

After deducting all expenses:

315900 - 232350 = 83550FBu profit    (£1 = 2000 FBu).

The 63Kg of husked rice was shared by the members; each received 4.5Kg of rice

to feed their family, plus 6420FBU in cash.

In general, the harvest was not good for this season - mainly because of the

poor quality of seed and the small amount of water given by IRDI. (integrated Rural Development Initiative).

Creative Solutions buys a pump for irrigating the rice field. This should enable the field to be used to grow vegetables when the conditions are not good for growing rice. The women will market any vegetables they do not need for food on their stalls.
