Soap-Making Project restarts in                       Bujumbura

On International Women's Day, with the theme "Rural and urban actors, together, transform women's lives", the Family Department organized training sessions through the teaching of the manufacture of soap for the women of FECABU Kinama, FECABU Carama and FECABU Cibitoke.

All these ladies were happy to learn a job that will be useful when most occupy rented houses with no-one with employment.

The different steps followed for the manufacture of soap:

1. Preparation of the mixture

The preparation consists in mixing the acid, palm oil and dye products in accordance with the measures.

The trainer showed the ladies how to mix and in their turn, they did the practice.

2. The actual manufacture

This is then poured into the plastic trays that we see in the photos. Everyone  follows the whole process and practise doing it themselves - it is not difficult to learn. At the final stage, we wait for the soap to set.

The women expressed their joy through songs and dances saying that they have just found a product that will give them a life because they had felt like people without hope, having nothing. They had such difficulty to paying rent and meeting  family needs.

In general, the programme is much appreciated, with good engagement from the AVEC members. Unfortunately, some do live in precarious circumstances.
